Remodeling contractor in San Diego

From an older bungalow that needs a new bathroom to a mid-century kitchen ready for a full redo, work directly with Alex, the owner, from the first visit to the final walkthrough.

Coastal Stone Construction remodels kitchens and bathrooms, renovates interiors and takes on construction and repair work for homeowners in San Diego.

San Diego has a wide range of housing: early 1900s homes in older neighborhoods, the large wave of post-war and mid-century houses, and newer condos and townhomes. Each comes with its own quirks once the walls are open, so we start every job by looking at the actual space rather than quoting from a photo.

Three San Diego homeowners have reviewed their bathroom remodels with us on Google and Yelp. All three mention a fair price, and they describe careful finish work done on time. You can read their reviews in full below.

Local know-how

Remodeling in San Diego, what to know

A few things worth planning for before a remodel here.

  1. Older homes, hidden surprises

Many San Diego houses are decades old, and remodels in older homes can turn up aging supply lines, old drain pipe or wiring that has been added to over the years. We look closely at the estimate, and if opening a wall changes the picture, Alex walks you through what it means for scope and cost.

  2. Bathrooms that handle the marine layer

Near the coast, damp mornings and steamy showers add up. A properly sized exhaust fan, moisture-resistant backer board behind tile and well-sealed grout keep a new bathroom looking new, and they matter more here than in a dry inland climate.

  3. Permits depend on the scope

Building permits in the City of San Diego go through its Development Services Department. Whether you need one depends on what the job involves, such as moving plumbing, changing electrical or altering walls. Ask about your project at the estimate, and check the city’s requirements for your address.

Reviews

What San Diego clients say

Word for word, from Google and Yelp.

All reviews

“Alex remodeled my guest bathroom, replacing a tub with a walk in shower, and retiled a second bathroom. He is a meticulous and conscientious worker who uses good judgement in constructions decisions. Each day the job site is left spotless, and he protects the house from dust when working. His pricing is very reasonable, and all jobs were completed on time and within budget. Coastal Stone Construction has my highest recommendation, and I look forward to using them on future projects.”

FAQ

San Diego questions

Common questions from homeowners in San Diego.

Do you work in my part of San Diego?

Call (509) 771-2791 or send the quote form with your ZIP code, and Alex will let you know.

My house is older. Is that a problem for a remodel?

No. Older homes are common in San Diego and can be remodeled beautifully. They sometimes need extra work behind the walls, so we look closely during the free estimate and talk through anything that could affect the scope or cost.

Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel in San Diego?

It depends on the scope. Swapping a vanity or retiling is different from moving a shower or changing electrical. Permits in the city are handled by the Development Services Department, so ask about your plans at the estimate and confirm the requirements for your address with the city.
